Blurb Partners with Leading Creative Influencers to Produce Occasions to Gather, a Cookbook to Benefit Feeding America

Featuring recipes and entertaining tips, Occasions to Gather showcases how Blurb can help creative professionals turn their content into beautiful books to sell.

San Francisco, Calif.— March 5, 2018 — Blurb, Inc., the leading creative book and magazine self-publishing platform, announced the launch of Occasions to Gather, a new collaborative cookbook featuring photos, recipes, style, and entertaining tips from top food and lifestyle experts. Contributors included Katie Newburn (@cloudsandcoffee), Sarah Menanix (@snixykitchen), Todd Wagner (@honestlyYUM), Paulina Farro (@potatochipsarenotdinner), and Denise Woodward (chez.us). Blurb also collaborated with Tequila CAZADORES, who contributed recipes for tequila-based cocktails and Mexican-inspired dishes.

Occasions to Gather was printed though Blurb’s Large Order Services and is now available for purchase online in the Blurb Bookstore for $29.99. All proceeds from the book benefit Feeding America, which is the largest hunger-relief charity in the U.S., dedicated to feeding America's hungry through a nationwide network of 200 member food banks.

Blurb’s Large Order Services team provides printing expertise and personalized assistance for book and magazine orders of more than 100 units. For Occasions to Gather, they guided format and printing choices throughout the project and managed the entire offset printing process from start-to-finish. By using offset printing, the team was able to take advantage of pricing benefits available exclusively for large orders, reducing the per copy cost by 70%. Offset printing also allowed for special design customizations, including a jade ribbon-marker and printed end sheets, which added a unique touch to this special project. For more information on Blurb’s customizations, visit their Large Order Services page.

With a foreword by Sunset editor-in-chief Irene Edwards, gorgeous photography by Portland-based lifestyle and food photographer Katie Newburn, and food preparation, styling and entertaining tips by New York Times food stylist Sarah Menanix, the cookbook was a true collaboration of leading creative professionals. Photography for the cookbook was shot in Oakland and Berkeley, with locations including Sunset Magazine’s test kitchen, The Trappist, and a hillside residential garden.

The Occasions to Gather team created the cookbook using BookWright, Blurb’s free desktop software, which enables authors to create layouts, add text and images, and set up print-ready pages for both print books and ebooks. The book’s content is showcased in a beautiful 8x10 Standard Portrait Photo Book with an ImageWrap Hardcover and Standard 80# Semi-Matte paper.
