Jill Stewart Walker was born in London, England on 31 May 1938, at the beginning of World War II. She was raised in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, and started school at the age of five, with her early school days often interrupted by air-raid sirens.
Jill left home aged twenty and with her school-friend Sylvia, headed for Canada where she and Sal (Sylvia’s nickname) eventually started performing as the Walker Sisters. They toured the Province of Quebec and when Sal fell in love with a jazz pianist, Jill continued her adventures across Canada as well as the USA. She returned to England in 1961, and, after a ‘Life Changing Event’, spent some time travelling in Western Europe.
She next set sail for Australia as a ‘£10 Pom’, beginning what she anticipated would be the start of a round-the-world trip. Her plans changed however, when she met her future husband-to-be and later married, before sailing away together on another round-the-world adventure bound for the UK .
During Jill’s adventures she had three children, survived breast cancer and finally succumbed to pancreatic cancer at age 82.
This book tells Jill’s story in her own words, often with candid honesty but at the same time reflecting on her well-developed sense of humour.
