288 pages--A young man is living through days of confusion, adjusting to an unrequited love for a former girlfriend. Unable to have contact with her, he waxes lyrical so as to keep the feeling of love alive in him. A writer owns up to two friends that this has just been a crazy story he's been writing. The friends wind up offering their own stories to the writer. He records them, and when this happens a new, overarching character appears, who seems to be the creator of everything being written. This character knows the writer and his friends intimately. In ending the narrative, as he has been responsible for every word written in the book, he expresses the ideas on art and the spirit that guided his production.
