Each year, the Burning Man Project nominates a theme to inspire artwork for that year’s event. In 2023, the Burning Man theme was Animalia. Participants were invited express the creatures of the spirit that give them confidence and courage.
In response to this theme, Los Angeles-based photographer, Grant Palmer, invited fire performers to embody their own imaginary menagerie in their own way. Images were created throughout the year with selected portraits to be exhibited on-site at Burning Man.
Twenty-nine performers brought their internal creatures to the project and this book is a compilation of each collaboration.
