Using Nature and an ordinary garden as a metaphor and closer inspection of the spiritual world, Donald Witten captures the seasonal elements of one calendar year, from October 2023, to October 2024. Witten captures the cyclical nature of the garden as a metaphor for our own lives. He utilizes the philosophies and teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Native American traditions, and the Celtic Year of the Wheel. This is a secular look at spirituality in prose and poetry.

I am a retired high school English teacher, and former head girls' basketball coach at a small school in southern Oregon. I have lived for 35 years on a 30-plus acre farm in Oregon's Willamette Valley with my wife Jody. My memoir/poetry collection in The Big Picture Journal: A Song of Wind and Wolves, is my first published work. When I am not writing, I enjoy gardening and small building projects on the farm. My writing goal now is to publish something - memoir, poetry, essay collection - every year.
