Sobre o livro
Disruption of Dissent is a nonfiction book about the surveillance, infiltration and entrapment of a group of political activists in Austin, Texas that pairs photographs with primary source law enforcement documents to tell a cautionary tale.
Developed from a project documenting the activities of an Occupy Wall Street offshoot group, this book includes numerous photos of undercover police officers at work along with their written communications with each other. By adding documents and emails from local police fusion centers it helps to reveal the inner workings of how law enforcement monitors protest movements.
Coming on the heels of the Arab Spring, the Occupy Wall Street movement marked the first time protesters began using social media in the U.S. to organize. And right along side law enforcement used those same platforms to track that organizing. This is vital reading for anyone interested in understanding how police respond to protests in the digital age.
