REVISED EDITION

This book is a photographic document of Penttilä Estate (Kartano) and its lost gardens, in the Lake District of Finland. For hundreds of years Penttilä was a farm where agricultural products were produced: fruits - from apples to cucumbers, peppers and grapes - vegetables, plants, cut flowers, livestock, pheasants and other products came from Penttilä. It was a center for the region and supplier of the Helsinki Carlton Hotel, and the Jyväskylä City (Kaupunki) Hotel. There used to be a bathhouse on the lake and on the shore there are a sauna and a traditional smoke sauna. The images in the book are a report of the situation after the Estate had been abandoned for decades; but also the beauty of the natural surroundings. Gradually Penttilä is being restored to its original grandeur.
