Paired with interesting facts and stories of the events that took place in these public places, sepia-toned photographs, shot in Beijing, Paris, London, Florence, Rome and Massachusetts, present the contemporary appearances of locales used for hangings, beheadings, and burnings, some in the transient fury of revolution, some in long-term state-sanctioned spectacles.

Sobre o autor
Lana Z Caplan is a photographer, filmmaker and installation artist. Utilizing contemporary and art historical references, Lana’s work addresses both specific current political or social events and more general concerns of how we navigate our complicated existence of love and desire, loss and devastation, birth and regeneration. Her work has been widely exhibited, her films screened in festivals and museums all over the US and the world, in countries such as Spain, Mexico and Columbia. She has received grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Puffin Foundation among others. She received her BA from Boston University and MFA from Massachusetts College of Art, where she is now an assistant professor.
