Sobre o livro
In the spring of 2011, I received a scholarship to travel to Norway to study the infamous Norwegian Stave Churches. These churches, built around 1100-1300 are masterpieces of timber construction. Built in an era before metal fasteners, these churches are held together by innovative jointwork.
The focus of the exploration was on how the jointwork, different each church, creates a unique experience in each church. In a modern era where architectural details are largely ignored, these churches are a testament to the efforts of the craftsmen.
They show that the essence of building comes in the basic construction rather than in all of the stuff that we cram inside.
This book is a photo recording of the 4 week journey across Norway that I took with my brother, visiting 9 of the 29 remaining stave churches.
