Sobre o livro
mill ends: (noun plural) miscellaneous remnants of finished fabric
Mill Ends - A Photo Recollection chronicles the waning days of the textile industry in Paterson, New Jersey. Shot in the 1970s, when the photographer was employed at Allied Textile Printers, the images capture the workers, the mill and the surrounding industrial neighborhood as they were: stark, gritty and raw. The images are accompanied by a personal narrative drawn from contemporaneous notes, conversations with former employees, and recollections triggered by the photographs.
Many of the buildings and most of the people profiled in the book are long gone. So, these images may well be the only remnants of how the men of Allied managed to smile, to laugh and to enjoy a way of life that is also now gone - forever.
The photographs contained in this book were first exhibited at the American Labor Museum / Botto House National Landmark in 2010.
