Sobre o livro
Not many years ago, in an unassuming house just off 17th Ave SW Calgary, lived a man like no other. A powerful intercessor with God, humble, a mystic, insightful, hard working and uncompromising; a hero hidden in our midst. He was loved, misunderstood, revered, rejected and marginalized, but still his light brightly burned attracting the lost and lonely, like a lamp in the darkness. He treasured these souls, overlooked by the world just like the ones Blessed Teresa of Calcutta rescued, or the ones that St. Andre Bessette of Montreal patiently listened to. Fr. Gino Violini befriended the educated, the affluent, the immigrant, and the troubled; he associated with diverse groups, including Anglicans and Doukhobors. Fr. Violini’s life experience was vast, his ability to read souls was amazing, and his wisdom was unparalleled.
Immigrating from Italy to Canada, his father worked as a coal miner in the Rocky Mountains. Gino was sickly from childhood and given but six months to live after his ordination in 1938; yet he outlived his contemporaries as an active priest. Fr. Violini’s secret was his mysticism and the power of insight into souls in confession—a gift usually associated with distant ages and faraway places—but unique in the bustling oil town of Calgary, Alberta.
Memories of Fr. Violini will introduce you to the man who loved Jesus and Mary as his best friends, and will share this holy priest’s spiritual advice and his unmatched love for souls; a love that you will feel still glowing within the pages of this book.
