Lane W. Newquist was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois where he fell in love with photography as a young boy. Though he pursued a career as an attorney, he remained close to his passion throughout his life while raising his own family with his wife, Ruth, in Rhode Island.

Lane served as president of the Photographic Society of Rhode Island twice and was involved in numerous other photography clubs as well. He enjoyed great camaraderie with fellow photographers willing to share their skills and talents, while also mentoring those willing to explore his. Lane was instrumental in implementing an Art in the Courthouse program facilitating exhibitions of artists works in Rhode Island courthouses. He won numerous awards over the years in photographic competitions and shows.

His final wish was to publish a photography book. He accomplished this goal on the eve before passing away. His legacy will always be cherished by his family and friends.
