Born in 1974 near Vladivostok, Yury Toroptsov left Russia on a scholarship to study at the New School for Social Research in New York, and has since lived between cultures that his photographs bring into dialogue through recurring themes of identity, memory, metamorphosis and the persistence of myth in ordinary lives.

A Diploma Candidate at the C.G. Jung Institute in Küsnacht, he approaches the photograph as a symbolic act. He lives and works in Paris.
