In 1619, Father Sebastian Bernardin was one of the first Europeans to set foot in the wilderness of the Nepisiguit region in what is now known as Northeastern New Brunswick, Canada. His mission was to convert the Mi’gmaq people to Christianity in order to facilitate the integration of French settlers into the area.
Father Bernardin spent approximately for years living among the Mi’gmaq people of Miscou, Pokemouche and Nepisiguit. During his mission, Father Bernardin became involved in many ordeals and journeys alongside his new friends which led him to see the true hardships of this land, yet the beautiful humanity among the many people he encountered at Nepisiguit.
His experiences and admiration for their language, culture and traditions was the catalyst to questioning the true motives of the Royal Crown and the Holy Catholic Church.
In his last year in Nepisiguit, Father Bernardin begins questioning his own faith and it leaves him secretly fighting the urge to leave the clergy.

Father Bernardin was in fact living in Nepisiguit from 1620 to 1623. This book is a work of fiction based on some factual chronological events that surrounded the time of his mission in the new world. With his personal journal missing and the mysteries that revolved around father Bernardin’s story, this book is an attempt to retrace his mission and personify the man behind the legends and myths.
