To walk down a street in Cuba is to be dazzled by the buzz and color and vibrancy of life in motion. The street isn’t a place that people pass through on their way to something; the street is where they’re going. It’s arrival, destination, a community center where they enjoy the jostle. People thrive there, they walk together, listen to each other’s stories, seem to know how to take their time. In Cuba, both in the city and the countryside, I felt like the street was a whole world where I was only a visitor seeking, through my camera, to come away with some of its magic.
