Sobre o livro
Across the Bridge brings you along a multi-month journey inside different parts of Philadelphia. Each week I grabbed my 35mm film camera and hopped the train toward Philly. Once in the city, my eyes immediately started to scan for and capture raw moments that became frozen in time inside the camera—moments that otherwise would be overlooked and forgotten. I was constantly looking ahead of me so as not to miss a moment as it passed, capturing the diverse collection of people that inhabit the city and the uniqueness they represent.
On my first trip, I was able to capture a couple that was intertwined with Apple headphones. I lifted my camera, the shutter snapped shut, and I prayed that it came out just the way I remembered it. Sure enough, it was just the way I wanted it. Right then and there, I knew this was possible, and with each week, my confidence heightened, as well as my compositions. This is seen in the final picture of the book; there is a decisiveness in the composition that was gained and refined roll by roll.
Each image focuses on a unique interaction of the subject within their surroundings, allowing life to happen around me as both an insider and an outsider. I zeroed in on little details that make a simple moment special and that much more fascinating. Colors complement and speak to each other on each page. I looked through the lens similar to an abstract painter, simplifying dynamic moments into shape, form, and color, telling the story of the wonderful city of Philadelphia through the eyes of my camera.
