Cyrano de Bergerac (1619-1655), was not only the inspiration for the romantic figure of Edmond de Rostand’s nineteenth-century play but also a larger than life satirist, swordsmen, and philosopher. Excerpts from his novel, Journeys to the Moon and Sun, is translated here by Timothy Hampton, Professor of French Literature at U.C. Berkeley. The book is illustrated by Art Hazelwood in this reproduction of the limited fine print edition. There are twelve full color images originally created from multiple plate etchings with linocut borders. Eleven pages of text were printed letterpress inside a decorative linocut border. All the prints were created and printed at Eastside Editions, San Francisco California, on paper also made by hand at the studio. This is a reproduction of that edition.
