This book contains over 85 colour photographs that illustrate the locomotives and operations of the Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway during its first eighteen years.
Since its inception in 1993, the Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway has operated Alco/MLW C-630Ms and RS-18s, GM GP9s, GP9-4s, GP15s, GP38-2s, GP38-3s, a GP40u, GP50s, SD40-2s, SD45-2s & GP20Ds.
The mainstay of the railway has been the haulage of natural gas and paper products from Port Hawkesbury to the CN main line at Truro.
The railway has also hauled coal (initially domestic & later imported) between Sydney and Point Tupper, and to Trenton and Truro.
VIA ran the "Bras d'Or" - a weekly summer tourist train - for five years.

The Late David Othen (1943-2016) He had been interested in trains since he was a child in the 1940s. Early memories include standing on the footplate of the Flying Scotsman at King's Cross. He has photographed and taken video of trains across North America, Britain and Europe. He was a volunteer on several tourist railroads and was a senior Trainman on the Salem & Hillsborough Railroad in New Brunswick. He was also fortunate enough to travel on the footplate of, and help fire, coal, wood and oil-burning steam engines and to drive steam and diesel engines.
