Sobre o livro
A palindrome is a word that reads the same forwards or backwards. This book explores the visual equivalent, i.e. an image that reads the same from left to right as right to left. The images originate from photographs of natural forms such as rocks, stones, trees, driftwood and bark, which are then digitally transformed to create the palindromes.
The book explores a number of variations of the basic theme. The simplest images are those in which the whole picture constitutes a palindrome. Sometimes only a component of the picture is transformed to create a new form set in its original landscape. Another variation is to make more than one transformation of the same image and then combine them into a single picture.
What the viewer sees in these pictures depends on the way the human brain attempts to construct meaning from visual information. Thus arrangements of lines, textures and shapes can be interpreted as human figures, animals, monsters etc. What is actually seen in these pictures depends on the viewer’s imagination and is likely to vary from viewer to viewer. Thus, there is no right or wrong way of interpreting them

I have had a lifelong enthusiasm for photography. I photograph a variety of subjects but take a special pleasure in natural forms, seeking out images that appeal by virtue of their shapes, textures, arrangement or colour. The “Visual Palindrome” project is a recent extension of this approach. . I am a member of the Beyond Group (www.beyondgroup.info), a small group of like-minded photographers based in Suffolk and Essex
