Phillip Nathan ("Nate") Read died of cancer on August 30, 1971. He was twenty-two and had just graduated from the University of Illinois in June. His father, Hadley Read, wrote a series of poems about his son before he died in 1981. Nate's brother and sister thought it was finally time to share them.
