Katie Gutierrez was born in 1971 in San Luis Obispo, California, to a stay-at-home crafty mother and an engineering student father who ate beans out of the can. Some would say they were hippies. They later moved to Fremont, where Katie started school and developed a taste for paste. After a move to San Jose suburbia, a younger sister came along. Various family re-configurations ensued, resulting in three half-brothers. She met the love of her life while a senior in high school, and started college at San Jose State University in 1990. In 1994, Katie began work at a small and fabulous architecture firm in Palo Alto, and after graduating in 1996 with degrees in photography and graphic design, she decided to stay with them.
She has exhibited her art at shows in San Francisco and New York, and has permanent space at the Kaleid Gallery in San Jose.
Katie currently resides in San Jose, California with her husband, cat, and two pug dogs. And no, she no longer eats paste.
